MINI KNOWLEDGE

There is a plethora of writing about P2P and the underpinning knowledge and understanding. The majority of the MINI KNOWLEDGE in this toolbox has come from the Peer 2 Peer Training Manual developed in 2015, with additional information from research and best practice.

Our desire has been to directly correlate the knowledge to the learning intentions in each session and within each module.

MINI KNOWLEDGE

PRE-PROGRAMME: PREPARING FOR PEER 2 PEER: Evaluating readiness to undertake the peer support journey of development.

This preparatory module is designed to ensure that potential participants are ready to undertake P2P. It introduces a personal stocktake and an intentional writing of the recovery story. This Mini Knowledge provides you with a duplicate of what participants will receive and guidance on having the conversations.

MODULE 1: INTRODUCING PEER SUPPORT: Understanding recovery and peer support.

This module is designed as the foundation stone for Peer2Peer. It introduces the concept of a safe and confidential learning environment, as well as exploring the roles of the key partners in the programme. This Mini Knowledge provides helpful underpinning knowledge for peer facilitators, in the context of remembering that the main role is to be an expert by experience and not by knowledge.

MODULE 2: THE PEER SUPPORT RELATIONSHIP: Exploring values, relationships, boundaries and risks.

This module builds on the work completed in Introducing Peer Support should you decide to deliver this next. It will also work as a stand-alone module. If you deliver this after Introducing Peer Support you will recognise some duplication of knowledge, as well as additional material. This is inevitable in trying to meet flexible delivery needs. This module develops on the idea of recovery as an empowering mindset and creates space for conversations around an empowering identity, strengths and the CHIME (Connectedness, Hope, Identity, Meaning and Empowerment) model.

MODULE 3: PEER CONCEPTS AND PRACTICE: Preparing to put peer knowledge and skills into practice.

This module builds on the work completed in The Peer Support Relationship should you decide to deliver this next. It will also work as a stand-alone module. This module explores the application of peer knowledge and skills in a practical way to support the recovery journey of others. If you deliver this after Introducing Peer Support or The Peer Support Relationship you will recognise some duplication of knowledge, as well as additional material. This is inevitable in trying to meet flexible delivery needs.
