The TOOLBOX is a set of online resources, tools and ideas that will help you with the ‘HOW’ of ‘WHAT’ you can do to be effective and engaging in your role as a peer supporter.

This toolbox will provide resources and materials for Peer Facilitators to design their own programmes, or to deliver this content as it is provided. This programme aims to provide a flexible approach where there is a series of modules, sessions and learning intentions in place with suggested methodologies and resources.

Peer Facilitators may choose to run all of the modules or one, our specific recommendations are:

  • Each potential participant completes the work in a mini module PREPARING FOR PEER 2 PEER.
  • Thereafter the first Module: INTRODUCING PEER SUPPORT, is used for everyone. We recognise this may be revision for some and new to others.

Facilitating empowerment from a personal perspective is a critical part of the mutuality that runs through peer support. This toolbox and the associated development sessions will support you in navigating that journey.

The desire of this toolbox is to create space and provide resources for you to maximise your existing peer support resources and processes.

Listen to Hollie talking about her peer support journey.

For each Module there will be:

  • Mini Knowledge to help you feel secure in the underpinning thinking.
  • Mini Participant Workbook which is available to download for each module.
  • Session plans and slides to help you get you started on the facilitation of the sessions.
  • Helpful downloads and videos.

In addition, we have created an overarching facilitator handbook that can help you think about the specific role of a peer facilitator at each stage of the journey with an individual or group.

PEER 2 PEER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Participants undertaking the programme may already be in a peer role as a peer worker, volunteer or have the aspirations to take on a peer role. The programme will prepare participants to use their lived experience in an empowering strengths-based way. Resulting in them being able to provide intentional peer support to others.

The programme has 3 modules, and each has a series of sessions. Each session is designed for 2 hours, this means 2 sessions could be a morning/afternoon.

PRE-PROGRAMME: PREPARING FOR PEER 2 PEER: Evaluating readiness to undertake the peer support journey of development.

MODULE 1: INTRODUCING PEER SUPPORT: Understanding recovery and peer support.

MODULE 2: THE PEER SUPPORT RELATIONSHIP: Exploring values, relationships, boundaries and risks.

MODULE 3: PEER CONCEPTS AND PRACTICE: Preparing to put peer knowledge and skills into practice.
